According to the Daily Mail China will put in place its Social Credit Score in 2020. The scorecard system will rank all 1.4 billion of China’s population based on numerous factors. Some of these include the purchase of Chinese goods and even alcohol consumption.
Those rated ‘top citizens’ get VIP treatment at airports, discounted loans, waived deposits on hotel and car rentals and fast-tracking to elite universities.
The site relates this new system to one in the hit Netflix show Black Mirror. In the show, the citizens are unable to “escape” the effect the score has on their day to day lives. It seems as if China’s system is slated to create a similar effect on citizen’s day to day lives.
