Amazon recently sent emails to select users informing them that their names and emails were leaked following what is being dubbed as a “technical error“.
From the Email:
The issue has been fixed. This is not a result of anything you have done, and there is no need for you to change your password or take any other action.
Amazon customers took to the message boards in hopes of receiving more insight into the issue. Some customers on the Amazon message boards are already complaining about an increase in phishing scams coming to their emails. Others are receiving emails from Chinese retailers urging them to change their customer reviews. Whether this has any correlation with the email leak is unknown but it certainly doesn’t look good.
Amazon finally delivered an official statement:
We have fixed the issue and informed customers who may have been impacted.
The statement doesn’t provide any more information than what Amazon already revealed in the original email they sent out. It is unlikely to subdue the concerns customers are raising.
